Christmas gifts from Independent Chester stores

Christmas decor

And so it is nearly Christmas… This year has been different. In many cases, it stopped us running around, chasing our proverbial tail…often forgetting why we are doing it. The whole of the human race slowed right down and had a chance to remember what are the most important things in our lives.

We always knew that friendship, love, adventure and community around us are important. It’s just this time we had a chance to sit down and think about it and re-access how we are going about it.

Personally…

For me, this year meant that I created a new business to make sure that my photography skills provide a diverse set of income streams.

It made me connect with what make me – ME. Nature and gardening is a massive passion of mine. And so my home now is an oasis of plants. While outside, we are putting up a green house for me – my birthday present!

On a family note – I started digging into my genealogical history. Consequently, I’m learning to read documents in Swedish, German and Estonian. Sweden is incredibly well organised with keeping their archives and one can access birth certificates from the year of 1693 online. Incredible!

The final point I want to make here is about local community. I re-discovered that I enjoy working with people who are good with their hands and produce creative, elegant and stylish designs. I get particularly excited if local makers bring international culture into their work.

And so this summer I was super excited to work with an American high couture embroiderer Holly La Rosa and also American fashion designer Pamela Patterson. We played in front of the camera together with the queen of Asian wedding photography Zehra Jegani and captured the heart and soul of international yogi Nora Day.

Next year I’m looking forward to discovering more creative souls near me. As it happens just yesterday, I came across an ace group called Curated Makers. They are independent crafters making unique pieces in all kinds of traditional and fancy materials. Until 23rd December they are showcasing some of their goodies in John Lewis Home store in Chester. I popped over and snapped a few pictures this morning – such a great selection of Christmas presents and stocking fillers! Do pop over to check them out.
